YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Who We Are
We have learned that the youth in our communities are the MOST aware that bullying is a problem. They also have many ideas about how to respond.
According to the UN's Convention on the Rights of the Child, "children have the right to have their voices heard, and to have their thoughts solicited and taken into account on matters that affect them." Following these same beliefs, NI2CI has started a Youth Advisory Commtitee for youth from Haldimand and Norfolk to join together and help make a difference in their communities, schools and homes.
What We Do
The youth meet regularly to explore the issues surrounding bullying and create ideas to prevent it from happening to begin with. We use a variety of tools to explore such issues including art, music, videos and comics. We are active in our communities through presentations (to community groups, to schools, to service partners), parades, bulletin boards, local fairs, newspaper articles and radio interviews. Whatever it takes to get our message out.
How do I get involved?
Our group meets on a regular basis in Haldimand-Norfolk REACH's Boardroom (in Townsend). A light supper is provided and the meetings are held generally on Thursday evenings from 5 - 7 pm. Volunteer drivers are provided for youth who need a ride.
It's never too late to join our group!
